Wilmslow Town Council is excited to announce the films for this year’s Cinema on the Carrs, which takes place on Saturday 10th June.
A public vote was held at the beginning of May for both the afternoon and evening films; the winning films were Roald Dahl’s Matilda the Musical – the film adaptation of Tim Minchin’s stage musical, starring Emma Thompson - and Top Gun: Maverick - the 2022 sequel to the classic film, starring Tom Cruise.
Cinema on the Carrs has been a pivotal feature on the Wilmslow events calendar since 2015, when Mamma Mia proved hugely popular. Wilmslow Town Council fund and organise this focal community summer event, which is free to attend and allows friends, family and neighbours to gather with their picnic mats and enjoy food, drink and films together in the beautiful surroundings of the Carrs Park.
This year’s Cinema on the Carrs also sees the long-awaited return of the Duck Race following a four-year absence. The Duck Race will be organised by Girlguiding Handforth and Wilmslow, with duck race entries available to purchase from 12pm.
A variety of food and drink will be available to purchase from stalls inside the arena and 1st Lindow Scouts will be running a tuck shop.
The timings for the day will be as follows:
12.00pm: Arena & Food and drink court open. Entertainment commences.
2.00pm: Afternoon film - Matilda the Musical.
4.15pm: Duck Race
7.30pm: Evening Film - Top Gun Maverick.
10.00pm: Event ends
Wilmslow Town Council Chair, Jon Newell, said, “Following the success of Wilmslow’s Coronation Celebration in May, we are delighted to able to bring people together once again for another free community event. This year’s Cinema on the Carrs promises to be a great day out for all the family.“
