Community Events

Wilmslow Town Council Events

Wilmslow Town Council organises two main events during the year with the purpose to either promote the Town Centre and it's businesses or to enhance the feeling of community for Wilmslow residents:

Cinema on the Carrs

The Council's summertime event is the 'Cinema on the Carrs' (pictured above) which takes place in the Carrs Park usually on a fine day in June and features an open air cinema during the afternoon and evening.
After a 3-year break, Cinema on The Carrs returned on Saturday 16th July 2022, with Encanto and Bohemian Rhapsody as the films chosen by Wilmslow residents.

Christmas Lights Switch-on

The Town Council funds the Town Centre Christmas lights and both funds and organises the Christmas Lights Switch-on Event. The event usually takes place on the third Saturday in November and features a live Reindeer Parade passing through the Town Centre ahead of the staged switch-on. The well attended event features School Choirs and often a local celebrity who helps santa to switch on the Christmas lights.

Regular Community Events include:

Remembrance Sunday

In conjunction with St Bartholomew's Church, Wilmslow Town Council organises and facilitates the annual service of Remembrance in the town. Falling on the nearest Sunday to 11th November each year the Parade to St Bartholmew's Church leaves Grove Avenue at 10.30am, arriving at the Memorial Gardens for a service in the gardens commencing at 10.50am. The service concludes at around 11.10am. Following the service in the Memorial Garden, there is a further service at St Bartholomew’s Church.

The Wilmslow Community Show

The Wilmslow Community Show is partly funded by the Town Council but is organised independently by an organising committee who are entirely responsible for its operation and success. The show has been held for over 100 years and is a centrepiece of the summer season in Wilmslow. For further details, Click Here
