At its meeting on Monday 16th January 2023, Wilmslow Town Council agreed to endorse the Wilmslow Town Centre Vitality Plan.

Recognising that town centres are facing unprecedented challenges, with footfall having significantly decreased leaving many centres struggling, Cheshire East Council first commissioned the Wilmslow Town Centre Vitality Plan - along with individual plans for the borough’s eight other towns - in 2020.

Wilmslow Town Council and the Wilmslow Neighbourhood Plan Implementation Group have had a significant input into the creation of Wilmslow’s Plan, which establishes an agreed set of priorities for Wilmslow Town Centre.

Cheshire East carried out a consultation on the Town Centre Vitality Plans in October-November 2022, and last week approved the strategies, subject to appropriate funding being identified.

The approved vision for Wilmslow’s Town Centre Vitality Plan is ‘to sustain and enhance a dynamic community within Wilmslow which protects its special built and natural character, and which promotes a user friendly and green environment with an increasingly attractive and thriving Town Core’.

The agreed areas for intervention in the Wilmslow Action Plan are:

1: Strengthening green space and links,
2: Creating more opportunities to dwell in the centre (priority from public consultation),
3: Improving the town's core (priority from public consultation),

4: Creating stronger gateways into the Centre,
5: Expanding the events programme,
6: Raising the Centre's profile,
7: Mobilising the business community,
8: Making more of community assets,
9: Better management of movement (priority from public consultation),
10: Embracing cycling.

The Wilmslow Town Centre Vitality Plan is not a commitment of finance to deliver the proposals - funding will need to be sought, and any actions will be taken forward as and when opportunities arise and resources allow.
