Wilmslow Town Council organises two main events during the year with the purpose to either promote the Town Centre and its businesses or to enhance the feeling of community for Wilmslow residents:

Cinema On The Carrs audience enjoying the afternoon film.

Cinema on the Carrs

The Council’s summertime event is the ‘Cinema on the Carrs’, which takes place in the Carrs Park usually on a fine day in June and features an open-air cinema during the afternoon and evening.

The free event also usually incorporates a duck race in a section of the River Bollin, inflatables and food and drink stalls.

In 2024, the afternoon film was Wonka and the evening film was Barbie.

Cinema on the Carrs 2025 will take place on Saturday 7th June.

Audience at Christmas lights switch-on, watching performers on stage.

Wilmslow Christmas Lights Switch-on event

The Town Council funds the Town Centre Christmas lights and both funds and organises the Christmas Lights Switch-on Event.

The event usually takes place on the third Saturday in November and features a live Reindeer Parade ahead of the staged switch-on near Bank Square.

The well-attended community event features performances from local groups, acts and choirs, with a local celebrity  helping Santa to switch on the Christmas lights.

The 2024 Christmas Lights Switch-on event took place on Saturday 16th November.

Remembrance Sunday

In conjunction with St Bartholomew’s Church, Wilmslow Town Council organises and facilitates the annual service of Remembrance in the town.

Falling on the nearest Sunday to 11th November each year, a Remembrance Sunday Parade to St. Bartholmew’s Church usually leaves Grove Avenue at approximately 9.30am.

At around 10.45am, the congregation make their way to the Memorial Gardens where the traditional 11am Remembrance Service will be held, followed by the laying of wreaths and crosses.

The 2024 Remembrance Sunday parade and service took place on Sunday 10th November 2024.
